Football Recap: Winter Haven Comes Up Short

Winter Haven fell victim to Ridge Community and their airtight defense on Thursday. They were beaten by the Ridge Community Bolts 28-0. The Blue Devils were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Bolts apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in April of 2024.

Elana Martinez threw for 72 yards on nine of 15 attempts. Imaria Peterson was her top target, picking up 34 receiving yards.

A big part of Ridge Community's win came down to the chemistry between Gabriela Gomez and her top target Abegael Benoit. Gomez threw for 88 yards and four touchdowns while completing 83.3% of her passes while Benoit gained 113 total yards and three touchdowns.

Winter Haven's defeat dropped their record down to 1-1. As for Ridge Community, the victory also got them back to even at 1-1.

Winter Haven didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next match, a 12-2 loss against Bartow on the 25th. As for Ridge Community, they have also already played their next contest, a 27-19 win against McKeel Academy on the 25th.
