Previewing the 2023 high school football season: Jeremiah Smith, Ryan Williams headline top 10 wide receivers

Ohio State, Texas A&M each land pair of wideouts on list.

We kicked off our position-by-position breakdown of the 2023 high school football season starting with the quarterbacks and running backs.

Wide receivers are next, led by Jeremiah Smith of Chaminade-Madonna (Hollywood, Fla.). The five-star Ohio State pledge was a 2022 MaxPreps Junior All-America first-team selection and is the second-rated overall player, according to 247Sports.

Texas leads the way with three players featured, led by Micah Hudson of Lake Belton (Temple), Dakorien Moore of Duncanville and Drelon Miller of Silsbee.

Alabama and Georgia were the only other states that had multiple selections. Ryan Williams of Saraland and Cam Coleman of Central (Phenix City) represent the Yellowhammer State. Mike Matthews of Parkview (Lilburn) and Caleb Odom of Carrollton were both selected from the Peach State.



Moore and Williams were the only non-seniors selected. They are both five-star prospects from the Class of 2025.

Named the Texas District 4-5A D-1 MVP after posting 65 receptions for 1,198 yards and 14 touchdowns. Added 32 carries for 243 yards and a score. The five-star receiver was a MaxPreps Junior All-America second-team pick.

The five-star wide receiver is one of the most dynamic playmakers in the country. He is also a standout performer on defense and special teams. Wingo has over 40 FBS offers and he's trending toward Texas, according to the 247Sports crystal ball.

Selected as an all-purpose player on the first team of the MaxPreps Junior All-America squad because of his dominance on both sides of the ball. The five-star wideout had over 1,000 yards receiving and was a big-time playmaker on defense.

Helped the Panthers win the 6A Division 1 state title in 2022, the first championship in 24 years. He hauled in 44 receptions for 764 yards and six touchdowns. Expect an even bigger junior campaign for the fifth-rated player overall in the Class of 2025, according to 247Sports.

Posted 59 receptions for 1,399 yards and 21 touchdowns to go with 361 yards rushing and three more scores. The recent Aggies pledge was a MaxPreps Junior All-America first-team selection.

The complete package, he has the size, speed, agility and catch radius to make him one of the toughest covers in the country. The five-star prospect checks in as the 17th-rated player overall on 247Sports.

The top-rated prospect in Indiana had 48 receptions for 1,149 yards and 13 touchdowns last season. The five-star wideout is the 18th-rated player, according to 247Sports.
