Basketball Recap: East St. John Takes a Loss

East St. John had lost three straight on the road, but on Tuesday they dropped down to 4-6 to make it four. They took a 69-56 hit to the loss column at the hands of the French Settlement Lions. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Wildcats of the 78-75 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in December of 2024.

As for French Settlement, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-4 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 64.8 points over those games.

French Settlement's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Jackson Chewning led the charge by shooting 50% from the field on his way to 20 points along with five boards and three steals. Those 20 points gave Chewning a new career-high. Reid Murphy was another key player, going 7-for-10 en route to 15 points.

Looking ahead, East St. John will be home for the holidays to greet St. Thomas Aquinas at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for French Settlement, they will head out to face off against White Castle at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.
