Basketball Recap: Cotopaxi Comes Up Short

After flying high against Cripple Creek-Victor last Wednesday, Cotopaxi came back down to earth. The Cotopaxi Pirates were just a bucket shy of victory on Friday and fell 35-34 to the Rangely Panthers.

Cotopaxi lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Terrance Evans, who posted 16 points along with eight boards and four steals. He is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed four or more in each of the last four games he's played. Joel Tezak was another key player, putting up six points and six rebounds.

Rangely got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Landon Bollinger out in front who had ten points and seven boards. Another player making a difference was Marcos Quintana, who earned eight points and 15 rebounds.

Cotopaxi's defeat dropped their record down to 16-5. As for Rangely, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-14 record this season.

Cotopaxi wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 46-38 victory against Flagler on the 1st. As for Rangely, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 66-52 loss against Evangel Christian Academy on the 1st.
