Basketball Recap: Laderricka Payne's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Fontainebleau over Northshore

Fontainebleau lost against Northshore back in January and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Fontainebleau Bulldogs took a 78-70 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Northshore Panthers. While the Bulldogs didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Panthers 25-20 in the first quarter.

Fontainebleau's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Laderricka Payne, who went 10 for 16 en route to 21 points and six rebounds. Payne has been hot recently, having also posted two or more steals the last three times she's played. Leila Neal was another key player, going 6 of 9 on her way to 17 points and seven boards.

Even though they lost, Fontainebleau smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 12 offensive rebounds in four consecutive contests.

Fontainebleau has been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six games, which put a noticeable dent in their 11-17 record this season. As for Northshore, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 20-5.

Fontainebleau will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Hammond at 6:00 p.m. Fontainebleau has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
