Football Recap: Maxwell Takes a Loss + How To Watch

It was a proper cat-fight when Maxwell challenged Redding Christian on Friday. The Panthers took a 30-22 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Lions. The Panthers were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Lions apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in November of 2024.

Despite the loss, Maxwell still got an impressive performance from Levi Velasquez, who rushed for 81 yards and a pair of TDs, and also threw for 205 yards and one touchdown. A healthy portion of that aerial production (98 yards to be exact) went to Tanner Vierra.

Redding Christian was led to victory by Wyatt Shaw and Levi Putnam. Shaw threw for 214 yards and three TDs while completing 73.1% of his passes, while Putnam rushed for 126 yards and one score on only 15 carries. What's more, Shaw racked up 135.7 passer rating, the most he's had since back in October of 2024.

Maxwell now has a losing record of 1-2. As for Redding Christian, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 3-0.

Coincidentally, Maxwell and Redding Christian will both be playing Mt. Shasta the next time they take the field. The Panthers will host the Bears at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, while the Lions will host them at 7:00 p.m. on the 26th.
