Basketball Recap: Voyager Academy's Victory on Friday Extends Winning Streak to 11

Voyager Academy waltzed into their contest on Friday with ten straight wins... but they left with 11. Everything went their way against the Henderson Collegiate Pride as they made off with an 80-55 victory. Given the Vikings' advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 210th, while the Pride are ranked 577th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Voyager Academy's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Manny Pullium, who went 8-for-13 to rack up 19 points in addition to six steals and five assists. The dominant performance gave Pullium a new career-high in steals. Bryce Smith was another key player, putting up nine points along with five steals and three blocks.

Pullium wasn't the only one working in the assist department: Voyager Academy was working as a unit and finished the game with 15 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Henderson Collegiate only racked up two assists.

Henderson Collegiate's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Atereon Bullock, who went 8-for-11 en route to 19 points, and Jayson Baskerville, who posted 12 points. Bullock is also on a roll when it comes to shooting accuracy, as he's posted one of at least 60% in the last five games he's played. Another player making a difference was Aden Branche, who put up seven points.

Voyager Academy pushed their record up to 19-6 with the victory, which was their ninth straight on the road. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 74.8 points over those games. As for Henderson Collegiate, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost five of their last six games, which has put a noticeable dent in their 7-17 record this season.

Voyager Academy wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next match, an 87-53 win against Eno River Academy on the 13th. As for Henderson Collegiate, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 50-42 defeat against Oxford Prep on the 12th.
