Recap: Riverside-Durham Pirates vs. Durham Academy Cavaliers

The Riverside-Durham Pirates had already won six in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 12.8 points), and they went ahead and made it seven on Friday. They came out on top against Durham Academy by a score of 58-48. That result was just more of the same for these two, as Riverside-Durham also won the last time the pair played back in December of 2022.

Corey Hairston jr. continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, scoring 22 points along with three steals. The game was his tenth in a row with at least ten points. Daniel Kelleh was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with seven steals.

Durham Academy's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Amare Burrus, who scored four points along with four steals. Burrus set a new season high mark in blocks with two. The team also got some help courtesy of Quin Frasher, who scored seven points.

Riverside-Durham pushed their record up to 8-2 with that victory, which was their fifth straight on the road. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 58.6 points per game. As for Durham Academy, their loss dropped their record down to 8-5.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Riverside-Durham will be home for the holidays to greet Green Level at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Green Level knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past six games -- so hopefully Riverside-Durham likes a good challenge. Durham Academy and Non Varsity Opponent will face off at 5:30 p.m. on December 19th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday.
