Basketball Recap: Traken Lee Key Part of a Team Effort in Buckaroo Win

Monticello's game last Saturday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Tuesday. They had just enough and edged the Whitehorse Raiders out 56-53. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Buckaroo have posted since February 6th.

Monticello's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Traken Lee, who went 5 for 9 on his way to 21 points in addition to eight rebounds and three steals. Lee's evening made it three games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Kaden Pehrson, who went 6 for 12 on his way to 14 points in addition to five assists and three steals.

Whitehorse's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Adam Joe, who posted 13 points. The dominant performance gave Joe a new career-high in points. Hyatt Thomas was another key player, putting up ten points.

Monticello now has a winning record of 4-3. As for Whitehorse, they dropped their record down to 4-4 with the defeat, which was their fourth straight on the road dating back to last season.

Monticello wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 57-33 win against Dove Creek on the 20th. As for Whitehorse, they will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Green River at 6:00 p.m. on January 3, 2025. Whitehorse is facing Green River at the right time seeing as Green River is stuck on a five-game losing streak.
