Preview: Sayre Spartans vs. Wolfe County Wolves
The Sayre Spartans will head out on the road to take on the Wolfe County Wolves at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Sayre knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past four matches -- so hopefully Wolfe County likes a good challenge.
Sayre was handed a three-point loss in their last match, but they sure didn't let that happen against Berea on Thursday. Sayre simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Berea 76-48 on the road.
Meanwhile, Wolfe County's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Saturday after their fourth straight loss. They ended up on the wrong side of a tough 80-55 walloping at the hands of Clay County. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
The losing side was boosted by Corey Flinchum, who went 6 for 11 from beyond the arc en route to 31 points and 2 assists. Jayden Hollon was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with two steals.
Sayre is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games, which provided a nice bump to their 17-9 record this season. As for Wolfe County, their defeat dropped their record down to 10-13.
Sayre was able to grind out a solid win over Wolfe County in their previous meeting back in February of 2023, winning 66-58. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was Wolfe County's Sawyer Thompson, who scored 21 points.
