Baseball Game Preview: Spencer County Bears vs. Eastern Eagles

The Spencer County Bears will head out on the road to challenge the Eastern Eagles at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday.

Spencer County made up a huge gap compared to their last game against North Bullitt, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Bears fell just short of the Eagles by a score of 3-1 on Tuesday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Bears have suffered against the Eagles since April 21, 2018.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Eastern). They were the clear victors by a 19-3 margin over Pleasure Ridge Park on Wednesday. The Eagles not only won on Wednesday, but they posted their biggest win since April 15, 2025 (when they won 16-0).

Eastern got a great performance from EJ Eggen as he struck out ten batters over five innings while giving up three earned runs off five hits. Those ten strikeouts gave Eggen a new career-high.

On the hitting side, Donovan Webber was a standout: he went 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. Those two runs gave him a new career-high. Jackson Harwood was another key player, going 3-for-4 with three RBI and two runs.

Eastern always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .578. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Eastern's win ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 6-11. As for Spencer County, their loss dropped their record down to 10-5.

Spencer County couldn't quite finish off Eastern in their previous meeting back in March of 2024 and fell 8-6. Can the Bears avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
