Basketball Recap: King Cove Falls Short Against Ranked Sand Point

On Thursday, King Cove faced Sand Point in a battle between two of the state's top teams. The King Cove T-Jacks and Rookies fell to the Sand Point Eagles/Lady Eagles 68-63. The T-Jacks and Rookies were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Eagles/Lady Eagles earlier this season, when they won 42-23.

King Cove's defeat came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Michael Chase Gould, who posted 20 points. The game was Gould's fifth in a row with at least 16 points. Another player making a difference was Riley Wilson, who had 15 points.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Sand Point to victory, but perhaps none more so than Ryu Vizcocho, who went 8-for-13 en route to 21 points in addition to six assists and five boards. Vizcocho is also on a roll when it comes to field goal percentage, as he's posted one of at least 53% in the last three games he's played. Rowdy Tripp was another key player, going 8-for-16 to rack up 23 points and six rebounds.

King Cove's loss dropped their record down to 5-4. As for Sand Point, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 6-3.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: King Cove beat Sand Point by a score of 41-34 on Friday.
