The Addison Trail Blazers will square off against the Downers Grove North Trojans at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. Addison Trail is coming into the contest on a four-game losing streak.
Addison Trail came up short against Downers Grove South on Thursday, falling 10-3.
Addison Trail saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jonathon Valdez, who went 1-for-4 with one double and one RBI.
Downers Grove North came out on top against Glenbard South on Tuesday thanks in part to the team's impressive seven-run seventh inning. The Trojans blew past the Raiders 8-1. The result was nothing new for the Trojans, who have now won nine matches by six runs or more so far this season.
Colin Doyle tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out six over five innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Brady Schallmoser and Antonio Russoties did most of the damage at the plate: Schallmoser got on base in all four of his plate appearances with two runs, two doubles, and one stolen base, while Russoties went 3-for-4 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. Those two doubles gave Schallmoser a new career-high. JD Cumbee was another key player, going 2-for-4 with three stolen bases and one run.
Downers Grove North was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .400. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Glenbard South only posted a batting average of .200.
Addison Trail's loss dropped their record down to 8-18. As for Downers Grove North, their win bumped their record up to 20-5.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Saturday as neither team is afraid to steal. Addison Trail has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.8 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Downers Grove North struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 4.8 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
