Football Game Preview: Sangre de Cristo Thunderbirds vs. Hoehne Farmers

Sangre de Cristo hasn't had much luck against Hoehne recently, but that could start to change on Saturday. The Thunderbirds will head out on the road to challenge the Farmers at 1:00 p.m. Sangre de Cristo has given up an average of 27.3 points per game this season, but Saturday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

On Friday, Sangre de Cristo took a blow against Fowler, falling 66-22.

Sangre de Cristo might have lost, but man, Kolby Shellabarger was a machine: he rushed for 163 yards and a pair of TDs on only 11 carries, and also picked up 48 receiving yards. The Thunderbirds also got a significant boost from Deklin Beiriger, who ran away from the competition to the tune of 103 yards.

Meanwhile, Hoehne played a tough contest on Friday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They were beaten by Crowley County 60-32. The Farmers were down 48-18 at the end of the third quarter, which was just too much to recover from.

Sangre de Cristo's defeat dropped their record down to 4-2. As for Hoehne, their loss dropped their record down to 1-4.

Sangre de Cristo was dealt a bruising 46-6 defeat at the hands of Hoehne when the teams last played back in October of 2024. Can the Thunderbirds avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
