Basketball Recap: Athens Takes a Loss

It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact Athens can now relate to. They were dealt a 57-30 loss at the hands of the Pleasant Plains Cardinals on Monday. While losing is never fun, the Warriors can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 227th, while the Cardinals are ranked 44th).

When it comes to explaining why Athens lost, don't look at Addie Stadsholt. Despite the final result, she dropped a double-double with 11 points and ten rebounds. Stadsholt has been hot recently, having posted nine or more boards the last three times she's played.

Athens' defeat dropped their record down to 18-13. As for Pleasant Plains, they are on a roll lately: they've won 19 of their last 20 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 24-6 record this season.

Athens does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Pleasant Plains, they will take on Sacred Heart-Griffin at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.
