Softball Recap: Gillespie Extends Home Winning Streak to Five

Gillespie barely beat Collinsville the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Miners put the hurt on the Kahoks with a sharp 15-2 win on Monday. Considering the Miners have won seven matches by more than six runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.

Paxton Reid made a splash while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out seven over five innings pitched. She has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double. That's the most hits she has posted since back in March.

In other batting news, Gillespie got a massive performance out of Laci Schuckenbrock, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 2-for-2. Schuckenbrock also put up a home run, which was her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Ava Parish, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3.

Gillespie always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .677. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Collinsville only posted an OBP of .263.

Gillespie pushed their record up to 8-5 with the victory, which was their fifth straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.0 runs over those games. As for Collinsville, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 4-6.

Looking ahead, Gillespie will head out on the road to square off against Pana at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Miners are facing the Panthers at the right time seeing as the Panthers are stuck on a four-game losing streak. As for Collinsville, they will host O'Fallon at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Panthers will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each game than the last.
