Recap: Timpanogos Timberwolves vs. Mountain Crest Mustangs

It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but the Timpanogos Timberwolves had no problem doing just that on Friday. They strolled past Mountain Crest with points to spare, taking the game 34-18. The win was familiar territory for Timpanogos who now have five in a row.

Easton Bretzing was his usual excellent self, rushing for 121 yards and two touchdowns, while also throwing for 80 yards and a touchdown while completing 100% of his passes. Another player making a difference was Chase Riggs, who threw for 214 yards and two touchdowns.

On the other side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to Timpanogos' defense and their four sacks. Jesse King was particularly dangerous to the passing game, picking up 2.5 sacks himself.

Mountain Crest's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performance. Perhaps the best among them was Will DeKorver, who picked up 124 receiving yards and two touchdowns. The team also got some help courtesy of Dax Benson, who rushed for 141 yards and a touchdown.

Timpanogos has yet to lose a contest at home this season, leaving them with a 9-3 record. That said, the team wasn't facing the toughest opposition over that stretch, as it included 2-9 Uintah and 2-8 Logan (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 36.4% over those games). As for Mountain Crest, they have been struggling recently, as they've lost three of their last four matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-6 record this season.

Timpanogos will head out on the road to face off against Park City at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Utah (Park City is ranked 25th, while Timpanogos is ranked 38th). Mountain Crest does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
