Softball Recap: Mount View Comes Up Short

Mount View had lost eight straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Saturday they dropped down to 0-4 to make it nine. They lost 10-0 to the Washington Academy Raiders. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Raiders this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 1-0 on Saturday.

Mount View saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Emily Richards, who went 1-for-2 with one double. That hit was Richards' first of the season.

As for Washington Academy, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 3-0. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.0 runs on average this season.

On Washington Academy's side, Bella Cirone made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run while striking out eight over four innings pitched. Cirone has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up a single earned run any time she's pitched this season. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

In other batting news, Washington Academy let Aynslee Emery and Lilyana Balyint run wild. Emery went a perfect 2-for-2 with two RBI and one run, while Balyint went a perfect 2-for-2 with one run and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Grace Howard, who earned two RBI, one run, and one stolen base.

We've got plenty of inter-region action coming up soon. Mount View will face off against rival Maine Central Institute at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Meanwhile, Washington Academy is set to take on their familiar foe Narraguagus at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday.
