Softball Recap: Ida B. Wells Comes Up Short

Ida B. Wells had lost four straight on the road, but on Tuesday they dropped their record down to 6-12 to make it five. They took a 9-5 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Grant Generals. The Guardians were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Generals earlier this season, when they won 2-1.

Kai Wisher was cooking despite her team's loss, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That home run marked the first that she has launched this season. Zoe Wise was another key player, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with one run.

As for Grant, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 6-11. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.0 runs over those games.

On Grant's side, Hazel Heron spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and two unearned) runs on four hits and racked up ten Ks.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Anya Rumage, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. Another player making a difference was Aria Hein, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

Ida B. Wells has already played their next match, a 7-6 win against Cleveland on the 30th. As for Grant, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 7-6 victory against Lincoln on the 30th.
