Baseball Game Preview: King City Mustangs vs. Seaside Spartans

For the second straight game, King City will face off against Seaside. The Mustangs will host the Spartans at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (King City has five straight victories, Seaside has eight straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

If King City beats Seaside with 15 runs on Thursday, it's going to be the squad's new lucky number: they've won their past two games with that exact score. The Mustangs blew past the Spartans 15-1 on Tuesday. Considering the Mustangs have won five contests by more than 12 runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

JC Navarro made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits (and only one walk). King City is 3-1 when Navarro allows two or fewer earned runs, but 2-9 otherwise. Navarro was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-3. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games he's played.

In other batting news, King City got a massive performance out of Sebastian Lizardi, who scored two runs while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. Lizardi is becoming a predictor of the Mustangs' success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 2-10 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was Mateo Blair, who scored three runs while going 2-for-3.

King City always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .595. That was just more of the same: they've now posted an OBP of .515 or higher in four consecutive matches.

King City's win was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 5-10. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.8 runs over those games. As for Seaside, their loss dropped their record down to 0-6.
