Baseball Recap: Richfield Now 5-1 over Last Six Games

It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Richfield had no problem doing just that on Monday. They came out on top against the Union Cougars by a score of 7-3. For the Wildcats, this counts as revenge for the 7-5 victory the Cougars walked away with the last time they faced one another back in May of 2023.

Richfield got a big performance out of Jess Curtis, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with three RBI. The Wildcats are undefeated when Curtis posts three or more RBI, but 9-17 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Malik Fautin, who went 1-for-3 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.

Richfield has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 12-17 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.2 runs over those games. As for Union, their loss dropped their record down to 21-7.

Richfield and Union are set to take part in some playoff action in their next matches. The Wildcats will face off against Juab at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Wasps will roll in looking for their tenth straight victory, something Richfield surely won't give up without a fight. As for Union, they will take on Grantsville at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday. The Cougars' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Cowboys have averaged an impressive 7.2 runs per game this season.
