Baseball Recap: Mescalero Apache Takes a Loss

If Mescalero Apache was riding high fresh off their 11-5 takedown of Dora last Monday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Chiefs took a 9-6 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Lordsburg Mavericks on Tuesday. The Chiefs were not able to make up for their defeat to the Mavericks from their previous meeting back in May of 2024.

Nick Yuzos stepped up to lead a balanced group of hitters: he went 3-for-4 with one triple and two RBI. Nathaniel Duffy was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 3-for-4.

Mescalero Apache's loss dropped their record down to 4-10. As for Lordsburg, they moved to 5-5 with that victory, which also ended their three-game losing streak.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Mescalero Apache will venture away from home to face off against Mesilla Valley Christian School at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. The SonBlazers will roll in looking for their fifth straight win, something the Chiefs surely won't give up without a fight. As for Lordsburg, they are taking a road trip to square off against Capitan at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Mavericks are facing the Tigers at the right time seeing as the Tigers are stuck on a nine-game losing streak.
