Softball Recap: Buckeye Extends Winning Streak to Seven

Buckeye waltzed into their match on Wednesday with six straight wins... but they left with seven. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Valley Forge Patriots a 15-0 shutout. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 18-2 on April 3rd.

Kwynn Czerwony made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 13 consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with two RBI and one double.

In other batting news, Faith Shaw was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and four RBI. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Sarah Michaels, who got on base in three of her five plate appearances with three stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI.

Buckeye was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .536. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .304 or higher in nine consecutive games.

Buckeye's win was their seventh straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 13-3. The road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.9 runs on average over those games. As for Valley Forge, they are on a 13-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-11.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Buckeye will venture away from home to square off against South at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Valley Forge, they will head out to challenge Cuyahoga Falls at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday.
