Basketball Recap: Raymondville Takes a Loss

Raymondville lost against Rio Hondo back in December of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Raymondville Bearkats were outmatched by the Rio Hondo Bobcats and fell 75-40. While losing is never fun, the Bearkats can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 1240th, while the Bobcats are ranked 561st).

When it comes to explaining why Raymondville lost, don't look at Adaleigh Knight. Despite the final result, she dropped a double-double on 26 points and 17 boards. The match was Knight's 14th in a row with at least ten points.

Even though they lost, Raymondville smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive rebounds. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 7.6 offensive boards per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 contests they've averaged 10.3.

Rio Hondo found their leader in freshman Carlie Rodriguez, who posted 25 points along with seven rebounds and four steals. Rodriguez is crushing it when it comes to steals: she's grabbed at least two every time she's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Emily Molina, who earned nine points in addition to seven boards and six assists.

This is the second loss in a row for Raymondville and nudges their season record down to 13-13. As for Rio Hondo, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 25-3.

Raymondville has already played their next game, a 52-47 win against Santa Rosa on the 31st. As for Rio Hondo, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next matchup, an 85-24 victory against IDEA Sports Park on the 31st.
