Preview: New Hanover Wildcats vs. Sanderson Spartans
The New Hanover Wildcats will be playing in front of their home fans against the Sanderson Spartans at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as New Hanover comes in on 29 and Sanderson on four.
With a playoff game on the line, New Hanover rose to the challenge on Friday. They walked away with a 57-44 win over the Knights. Given New Hanover's advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked eighth, while Knightdale is ranked 89th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead New Hanover to victory, but perhaps none more so than Reece Tushingham, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 13 rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Tushingham has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Rodmik Allen, who scored 14 points along with six assists and five rebounds.
Meanwhile, even though Lumberton scored an imposing 65 points on Friday, Sanderson still came out on top. Sanderson managed a 70-65 victory over Lumberton.
New Hanover pushed their record up to 29-0 with that victory, which was their 13th straight at home. They've been dominating during the matches in that stretch too, as they've won by an average of 27.8 points. As for Sanderson, they are on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine contests, which provided a nice bump to their 20-8 record this season.
