Ansonia came out on top against Newton Local on Wednesday thanks in part to the team's impressive seven-run fourth inning. The Tigers blew past the Indians 13-3. The victory continues a trend for the Tigers in their matchups with the Indians: they've now won three in a row.
Bre Walker tossed a big game, pitching five innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off three hits.

On the hitting side, Addie Geyer and Miley Walls did most of the damage at the plate: Geyer went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and two doubles, while Walls went 3-for-4 with four RBI, two doubles, and one stolen base. Those four RBI gave Walls a new career-high. Shyann McKenna was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases and two runs.
Ansonia kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their hit total in three consecutive matches.
Meanwhile, St. Henry came up short against Celina on Monday and fell 8-3.
Rya Buschur was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double. Paige Felver also deserves some recognition as she hit her first triple of the season.
The win got Ansonia back to even at 8-8. As for St. Henry, they have been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-10 record this season.
Ansonia's speedy runners might be the difference in Wednesday's contest. The Tigers have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 4.6 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for St. Henry, though, as they've been averaging only 1.2 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Ansonia continue to outrun the ball?
Ansonia came out on top in a nail-biter against St. Henry when the teams last played back in May of 2024, sneaking past 7-6. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Tigers since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
