Softball Game Preview: Pompano Beach Golden Tornadoes vs. Western Wildcats

The Pompano Beach Golden Tornadoes will take on the Western Wildcats at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average, (Pompano Beach 2.9, Western 1) so any runs scored will be well earned.

Pompano Beach barely beat Pembroke Pines Charter the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. Pompano Beach put the hurt on Pembroke Pines Charter with a sharp 12-3 win on Tuesday. Considering the Golden Tornadoes have won four games by more than eight runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Meanwhile, Western put another one in the bag on Tuesday to keep their perfect season alive. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 3-2 W against Cooper City. That's two games straight that the Wildcats have won by just one run.

Ali Solo made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 11 batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off five hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than nine strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 1-for-4.

In other batting news, Danae Falquez was excellent, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with three stolen bases. Those three stolen bases gave her a new career-high. Analie Diaz also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.

Western's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 6-0. A key ingredient in that success has been their performance when it comes to hits: they averaged an imposing 9.67 hits in those games compared to only 5.33 in the others. As for Pompano Beach, they now have a winning record of 4-3.

Pompano Beach couldn't quite get it done against Western in their previous matchup back in March of 2023 as they fell 8-3. Can Pompano Beach avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
