Basketball Recap: Wheatland-Grinnell Takes Loss Despite Strong Efforts from Daniel Mason and Riley Tuttle

Wheatland-Grinnell lost against Ness City back in January of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Wheatland-Grinnell Thunderhawks lost 74-48 to the Ness City Eagles. The Thunderhawks have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Riley Tuttle and Daniel Mason certainly did their best on Friday to avoid the loss. Tuttle posted 17 points and six boards, while Mason put up 14 points and five rebounds. Auston Bland also deserves some recognition as he grabbed his first steal of the season.

Even though they lost, Wheatland-Grinnell smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in four consecutive contests.

Ness City's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Cadyn Harley led the charge by going 5 for 9 en route to 15 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Dakoda McDonald, who went 7 of 13 on his way to 16 points along with seven boards and three steals.

Wheatland-Grinnell's defeat dropped their record down to 5-8. As for Ness City, their record is now 7-8.

Wheatland-Grinnell didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 54-45 victory against Cheylin on the 4th. As for Ness City, they will host LaCrosse at 7:45 p.m. on February 7th.
