Football Recap: Freeman Falcons vs. McCool Junction Mustangs

Freeman lost against McCool Junction back in September of 2024, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Falcons fell just short of the Mustangs by a score of 44-42. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game last Friday (39), the Falcons still had to take the loss.

Despite the loss, Freeman still got an impressive performance from True Jurgens, who picked up 45 receiving yards and one score, and also punched in one touchdown on the ground.

Leading McCool Junction to victory were Carson McDonald and Colby Yates. McDonald rushed for 212 yards and four TDs while picking up 7.9 yards per carry, while Yates rushed for 132 yards and a pair of scores on only nine carries. Those 132 rushing yards gave Yates a new career-high.

Freeman now has a losing record of 1-2. As for McCool Junction, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 2-1.

Freeman and McCool Junction will both get their first taste of in-conference action in their upcoming games. The Falcons will square off against rival Lourdes Central Catholic at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, McCool Junction is set to challenge their familiar foe East Butler at 3:00 p.m. on Friday.
