Baseball Game Preview: Doral Academy Firebirds vs. Springstead Eagles

The Doral Academy Firebirds will face off against the Springstead Eagles at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. One thing working in Doral Academy's favor is that they have posted at least ten runs in their last five matchups.

Last Thursday, Doral Academy made easy work of Gulliver Prep and carried off a 19-6 victory. Considering the Firebirds have won nine games by more than five runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

Aaron Elissalt looked comfortable as he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Doral Academy got a massive performance out of Gabriel Milano, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base. Dylan Prince was another key player, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with one home run, three runs, and two RBI.

Doral Academy always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .675. That was just more of the same: they've now posted an OBP of .556 or higher in five consecutive contests.

Meanwhile, while it was Springstead who put the first points on the board on Friday, it was Florida Christian who put up more. Springstead fell just short of Florida Christian by a score of 3-2.

Nathaniel Sabino made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and scored a run and stole a base while going 3-for-3. The team also got some help courtesy of Nathan Marsh, who scored a run while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

Doral Academy is on a roll lately: they've won 11 of their last 12 matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-2-1 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.5 runs over those games. Springstead's loss dropped their record down to 10-4.
