Norco has gone 7-2 against Temecula Valley recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Wednesday. The Cougars will be taking part in a tournament against the Golden Bears at 3:00 p.m. Both teams are coming into the match red-hot, with Norco sitting on three straight wins and Temecula Valley on seven.
Norco is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. Their pitchers stepped up to hand Downers Grove South an 8-0 shutout on Tuesday. Give the Cougars' pitching crew some credit: that's the team's third straight shutout.
Riley Moran looked comfortable as he struck out six batters over two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and only one walk).
On the hitting side, Norco let Dylan Seward and Kevin Leon run wild. Seward scored two runs while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances, while Leon went a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI and one double.
Norco was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .448. The last time their batting average was this high was back in April of 2024.
Meanwhile, Temecula Valley's hitters rose to the challenge against a Patriots pitching crew that boasted an average of only 3.89 runs allowed on Friday. The Golden Bears blew past Heritage 12-0. The Golden Bears might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won three contests by 12 runs or more this season.
Taden Krogsgaard made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out seven over four innings pitched. Krogsgaard was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-3. What's more, he posted two RBI, the most he's had since back in March of 2024.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Ryan Recio, who went 2-for-3 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. He also hit a double, marking his first of the season. Chase Hilt was another key player, scoring two runs while going 1-for-2.
Temecula Valley's victory was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 7-1. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.6 runs on average over those games. As for Norco, the victory got them back to even at 6-6.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Wednesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Norco has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.6 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Temecula Valley struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 8.6 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Norco skirted past Temecula Valley 5-3 in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Will the Cougars repeat their success, or do the Golden Bears have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
