After a string of three wins, Southeastern's good fortune finally ran out on Thursday. They fell just short of the Locust Fork Hornets by a score of 6-5. The Mustangs were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Hornets apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in April of 2024.
Emellie Hamilton was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. On the mound, she struck out 12 batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned (and four unearned) runs off eight hits. Hamilton was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 2-for-3.
Hamilton wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Alyssa Freeman, who scored a run while going 1-for-4. Freeman also hit a double, marking her first of the season. Another was Taylor Moon, who scored a run while going 1-for-3.
Southeastern's defeat dropped their record down to 6-4. As for Locust Fork, their victory bumped their record up to 3-1.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Southeastern will challenge Appalachian at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Locust Fork, they will head out to face off against Hanceville at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
