Soccer Game Preview: Walton vs. Pope

The Walton Raiders will face off against the Pope Greyhounds at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Both teams are still undefeated after five-games, but that won't be the case come Tuesday.

Walton's defense heads into the matchup hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Saturday. Everything went their way against Lassiter as Walton made off with a 3-0 victory. The Raiders might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won three contests by three goals or more this season.

Meanwhile, in Friday's Canine Competition, Pope prevailed. They walked away with a 2-0 win over Forsyth Central on Friday. Two seems to be a good number for the Greyhounds as the team scooped up a victory with the same number of goals in their previous game.

Addison Adair and Elizabeth Kelly scored both of Pope's goals, bringing their combined season tally to three goals.

Pope's win bumped their record up to 5-0. As for Walton, they pushed their record up to 5-0 with the victory, which was their fourth straight on the road.

Walton came out on top in a nail-biter against Pope when the teams last played back in April of 2024, sneaking past 1-0. The rematch might be a little tougher for Walton since the squad won't have the home-pitch advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
