Volleyball Recap: East Mecklenburg's Undefeated Season over After Eight Games

The East Mecklenburg Eagles didn't have quite enough to beat the Union Academy Cardinals on Saturday and fell 2-1. The matchup marked the Eagles' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.

East Mecklenburg started the match hot and won the first set, but they struggled down the stretch and lost the last two. The match finished with set scores of 22-25, 25-13, 15-11.

Christopher Dougherty paced East Mecklenburg's offense, picking up nine kills. Dougherty got some help from Charlie Wehrheim and his seven assists. Khang Nguyen controlled things from the service line, finishing with three aces.

Having lost for the first time this season, East Mecklenburg fell to 7-1. As for Union Academy, the win (which was their sixth in a row) raised their record to 7-1.

East Mecklenburg wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 2-0 loss against Covenant Day on the 29th. As for Union Academy, a feisty cat fight will be fought as Union Academy Cardinals face off against Piedmont Panthers at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
