Basketball Game Preview: Surry Central Golden Eagles vs. West Wilkes Blackhawks

The Surry Central Golden Eagles are taking a road trip to face off against the West Wilkes Blackhawks at 8:00 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Surry Central's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points every time they've taken the court this season.

Last Tuesday, Surry Central earned a 68-60 win over East Surry. Given the Golden Eagles' advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 179th, while the Cardinals are ranked 416th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Tripp Mcmillen and Jax Whitaker were among the main playmakers for Surry Central as the former went 8 of 13 en route to 21 points along with seven boards and five steals and the latter posted 22 points. The matchup was Whitaker's third in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Damen Hazelwood, who went 5 for 7 on his way to 10 points.

Meanwhile, West Wilkes was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their fifth straight defeat. They took a hard 75-58 fall against Elkin.

West Wilkes' loss dropped their record down to 5-12. As for Surry Central, they are on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last ten contests, which provided a nice bump to their 11-3 record this season.

Everything came up roses for Surry Central against West Wilkes in their previous meeting back in December of 2024, as the squad secured a 79-32 victory. In that game, Surry Central amassed a halftime lead of 56-19, an impressive feat they'll look to repeat on Friday.
