Basketball Recap: Ellie Bollenbacher's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Argos over West Central

Argos lost against West Central back in December of 2023, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Saturday. The Argos Dragons took a 45-38 hit to the loss column at the hands of the West Central Trojans. The Dragons have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Argos' defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Ellie Bollenbacher, who posted 18 points and seven boards. The dominant performance gave Bollenbacher a new career-high in points. Alydiah Leed was another key player, putting up eight points, to go along with seven boards and six steals.

West Central found their leader in sophomore Madisyn DeMoss, who went 6 of 14 on her way to 13 points, to go along with six rebounds and three blocks. DeMoss is on a roll when it comes to blocks, as she's now posted two or more in the last seven games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Sydney Mellon, who had five points in addition to seven boards and three steals.

Argos' loss dropped their record down to 3-8. As for West Central, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 6-3.

Argos will take on Winamac at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Argos is facing Winamac at the right time seeing as Winamac is stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for West Central, they will challenge North White at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. That game will pit two of the most dominant centers against one another: DeMoss and Autumn Reif.
