Basketball Game Preview: Mater Lakes Academy Bears vs. Key West Conchs

Mater Lakes Academy is 4-0 against Key West since November of 2022 and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Monday. The Mater Lakes Academy Bears will look to defend their home court against the Key West Conchs at 5:00 p.m. Mater Lakes Academy has been dominant on offense recently, having racked up an incredible 203 points over their last three matches.

Last Thursday, Mater Lakes Academy came up short against Palmer Trinity and fell 67-56. The Bears haven't had much luck with the Falcons recently, as the team's come up short the last two times they've met.

Despite the loss, Mater Lakes Academy saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Vanessa Vancott went 12 for 17 on her way to 34 points. Vancott's evening made it 21 games in a row in which she has scored at least ten points. Mya Glover was another key player, putting up ten points and seven rebounds.

Meanwhile, Key West was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat. They were two points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 32-30 heartbreaker at the hands of Hallandale. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Conchs have suffered since January 16, 2024.

Key West's defeat dropped their record down to 1-14. As for Mater Lakes Academy, their loss dropped their record down to 14-8.

Everything came up roses for Mater Lakes Academy against Key West when the teams last played last Tuesday, as the team secured a 77-50 win. Does Mater Lakes Academy have another victory up their sleeve, or will Key West turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
