Football Recap: Mortimer Jordan Takes Loss Despite Strong Performances from Tanner Rice and Parker Reno

Mortimer Jordan was the 28-14 winner over Woodlawn when they last played one another back in September of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The Blue Devils took a 26-21 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Colonels on Friday. The Blue Devils gained 101 more yards on the day, but it was the Colonels that made the best use of them.

Parker Reno and Tanner Rice certainly did their best on Friday to avoid the loss. Reno rushed for 183 yards and one TD while picking up 8.3 yards per carry, while Rice rushed for 111 yards and a pair of scores on only 13 carries. Blaze Neely also deserves some recognition as he rushed for his first rushing yards of the season.

Mortimer Jordan's defeat was their fourth straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 1-4. As for Woodlawn, their win (their first of the season) made their record 1-4.

Coming up, Mortimer Jordan will welcome Fort Payne at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Woodlawn, they will head out on the road to challenge Hartselle at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Colonels will need to watch out since the Tigers have now posted at least 31 points every time they've taken the field this season.
