Basketball Game Preview: Lake Pointe Academy Mariners vs. Riverwalk Academy Lions

After both having extra time off, the Lake Pointe Academy Mariners and the Riverwalk Academy Lions will dust off their jerseys to square off against one another at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Lake Pointe Academy is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 56.2 points per game this season.

Last Friday, Lake Pointe Academy strolled past Richard Winn Academy with points to spare, taking the game 50-36. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Mariners.

Lake Pointe Academy got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was James Jacobs out in front who posted 22 points. Another player making a difference was Stewart Settle, who put up 13 points.

Meanwhile, Riverwalk Academy was not able to break out of their rough patch two weeks ago as the team picked up their fourth straight loss. They were beaten by Lamar 56-27. Having soared to a lofty 59 points in the game before, the Lions couldn't push the score so high this time.

Lake Pointe Academy will have to contain Austin Thurman as he made an impact in Riverwalk Academy's last game. He went 8 of 18 on his way to 17 points and eight rebounds.

Lake Pointe Academy is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 8-2 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 60.5 points per game. As for Riverwalk Academy, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-5.

Everything went Lake Pointe Academy's way against Riverwalk Academy when the teams last played back in November of 2023, as Lake Pointe Academy made off with a 58-36 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Lake Pointe Academy since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
