Baseball Recap: Wheeling Comes Up Short

Wheeling had lost nine straight on the road, but on Monday they dropped their record down to 9-14 to make it ten. They fell just short of the Rolling Meadows Mustangs by a score of 5-3. The Wildcats were not able to make up for their defeat to the Mustangs from their previous meeting back in April of 2024.

As for Rolling Meadows, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 18-8. That's two games straight that they have won by exactly two runs.

For Rolling Meadows' part, Cam Wachtel spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered three earned runs on six hits. Wachtel has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks any time he's pitched this season.

On the hitting side, Ryan Schneider was excellent, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two RBI and one double. Will Ciccone was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two RBI and one double.

While Wheeling had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:45 p.m. on Wednesday.
