Softball Recap: Staunton River Takes a Loss

Staunton River and Broadway squared off in some playoff action on Tuesday, but Staunton River had to settle for second. They came up short against the Gobblers, falling 8-1. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss the Golden Eagles have suffered since March 29th.

Emma Alcorn was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: she kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits over 4.2 innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in six consecutive appearances.

Staunton River's defeat dropped their record down to 19-6. As for Broadway, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 21-4 record this season.

Staunton River does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Broadway, they will take on New Kent at 1:30 p.m. on Friday. The Trojans will roll in looking for their 16th straight win, something the Gobblers surely won't give up without a fight.
