Basketball Preview: Wakefield Country Day Owls vs. Eukarya Christian Academy Lions
Wakefield Country Day has enjoyed a two-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will square off against the Eukarya Christian Academy Lions at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Hopefully Wakefield Country Day focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 21 on Wednesday.
Last Wednesday, Wakefield Country Day came up short against the SAINTS and fell 62-50. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Wakefield Country Day in their matchups with the SAINTS: they've now lost four in a row.
Despite their defeat, Wakefield Country Day saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Alfredo Martinez, who scored 19 points along with seven rebounds and three steals, was perhaps the best of all. That was a full 38% of Wakefield Country Day's points, marking the fourth time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Sean Han, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and ten rebounds.
Eukarya Christian Academy proved they can win big last Thursday (they won by 25) but on Friday they proved they can win the close ones too. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Wakefield Country Day and snuck past 50-47. Eukarya Christian Academy's offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.
Wakefield Country Day's loss dropped their record down to 1-6. As for Eukarya Christian Academy, the win got them back to even at 2-2.
Wakefield Country Day couldn't quite finish off the Lions in their previous meeting on Friday and fell 50-47. Can Wakefield Country Day avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
