Preview: Spoto Spartans vs. Sickles Gryphons
Spoto has been on the road for two straight, but on Friday they'll finally head home. They will take on the Sickles Gryphons at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Even though Spoto has not done well against Durant recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Wednesday. Spoto blew past Durant 57-24 on the road. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest win Spoto has posted since December 13, 2023.
Spoto found their leader in underclassman Jayla Griffin, who scored 26 points along with seven steals. That makes it three consecutive games in which Griffin has scored at least a third of Spoto's points. Another player making a difference was Dominique Boone, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and ten rebounds.
Meanwhile, Sickles really took it to Tampa Bay Tech for the full four quarters, racking up a 68-31 win on the road. With Sickles ahead 50-15 at the half, the matchup was all but over already.
Spoto has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 12-6 record this season. As for Sickles, their victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 14-3.
Spoto was dealt a bruising 59-18 defeat at the hands of Sickles in their previous meeting back in November of 2022. Can Spoto avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
