Basketball Recap: Spearville Makes It Four in a Row at Home

Spearville extended their home winning streak to four games thanks to a huge performance from Ian Melendez. The Spearville Lancers snuck past the Hodgeman County Longhorns with a 60-55 victory on Friday thanks in part to Melendez, who went 8 of 16 on his way to 27 points along with six rebounds and three steals. He has been hot recently, having posted three or more steals the last three times he's played.

Several Longhorns players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Tyson Younger, who went 6 for 10 en route to 13 points and seven boards. Those 13 points gave Younger a new career-high. Kendall Burns was another key player, going 5 of 7 on his way to 13 points.

Spearville is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 7-2 record this season. As for Hodgeman County, their defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 8-2.

Spearville has already played their next game (against South Central), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Hodgeman County is taking a road trip to face off against South Gray at 7:40 p.m. on Tuesday. South Gray knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past three contests -- so hopefully Hodgeman County likes a good challenge.
