Baseball Recap: Hoggard Takes a Loss

Hoggard was the 11-4 winner over West Brunswick when they last played one another back in March, but their luck changed this time around. The Vikings might be feeling deja-vu: they lost 3-2 to the Trojans, which was the same score (and result) they got the week prior. The Vikings just can't catch a break and have now endured seven losses in a row.

Lucas Mathews was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he struck out six batters over six innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off four hits.

Hoggard's record is now 5-12. As for West Brunswick, the victory snapped their losing streak at five games and leaves them with a 5-11 record.

Coming up, Hoggard will face off against Grimsley at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. The Whirlies' pitching crew has only allowed 2.1 runs per game this season, so the Vikings' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for West Brunswick, they are taking a road trip to take on North Brunswick at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
