Basketball Recap: Ava Garcia's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Saint Viator over Marian Catholic

Saint Viator lost against Marian Catholic back in January and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Saturday. The Saint Viator Lions took a 53-40 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Marian Catholic Spartans. While losing is never fun, the Lions can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 120th, while the Spartans are ranked 31st).

Several Lions players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Ava Garcia, who went 5 of 12 on her way to 15 points. Another player making a difference was Maggie Ratzki, who posted eight points.

Saint Viator has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 17-10 record this season. As for Marian Catholic, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 22-6.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Saint Viator has already played their next game (against Lake Forest Academy), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Marian Catholic will take on Nazareth Academy at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Nazareth Academy will roll in looking for their 16th straight victory, something Marian Catholic surely won't give up without a fight.
