Softball Recap: Phelps Hornets vs. Mount View Golden Knights

Phelps had lost 15 straight at home dating back to last season, but on Thursday they dropped their record down to 0-13 to make it 16. They came up short against the Mount View Golden Knights, falling 15-7. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Golden Knights this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 13-5 back in April.

As for Mount View, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-7 record this season. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 13 games by seven runs or more this season.

For Mount View's part, Phoebe Dudgeon made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 16 batters over six innings while giving up three earned (and four unearned) runs off only two hits. Dudgeon has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than eight strikeouts in eight consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two doubles and two RBI. That's the most doubles she has posted since back in March of 2024.

In other batting news, Kayleigh Rose was a standout: she went 2-for-4 with four stolen bases and three runs. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in April of 2024. Shianne Belcher also deserves some recognition as she launched her first home run of the season.

Looking ahead, Phelps will venture away from home to challenge Magoffin County at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for Mount View, they will host River View at 6:00 p.m. on Monday.
