Basketball Recap: Capital Prep Comes Up Short

Capital Prep was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their fifth straight loss dating back to last season. They were two points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 34-32 heartbreaker at the hands of the CREC [Computer Science and Engineering/Academy] Eagles. The Trailblazers were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Eagles apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in February of 2024.

De'Mya Barrett continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines for CREC [Computer Science and Engineering/Academy], dropping a double-double on 22 points and ten boards. Barrett is trending in the right direction considering she's improved her point production for three straight games. Semaj Grier was another key player, putting up four points along with ten boards and four steals.

Capital Prep's loss dropped their record down to 0-2. As for CREC [Computer Science and Engineering/Academy], their victory was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 6-1.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Capital Prep will have a little extra prep time after the defeat as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on CREC [Computer Science and Engineering/Academy] at 4:45 p.m. on January 27th. As for CREC [Computer Science and Engineering/Academy], they will head out to take on Stafford at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. CREC [Computer Science and Engineering/Academy]'s defense has only allowed 27.9 points per game this season, so Stafford's offense will have their work cut out for them.
