Football Recap: McAllen Comes Up Short

After some red-hot attacks on offense in their last three matchups, McAllen finally came back down to earth on Friday. They fell just short of the Vela Sabercats by a score of 10-7. The game marked the Bulldogs' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.

McCoy Wolthoff threw for 154 yards and one touchdown. Finn Henderson was his top target, picking up 58 receiving yards and one TD.

Vela's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Christopher Caballero led the charge by rushing for 143 yards. Those 143 rushing yards gave Caballero a new career-high.

The defeat snapped McAllen's winning streak at three games and leaves them with a 3-2 record. As for Vela, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 4-1.

McAllen and Vela will both get a bit of extra prep time before their next matchups. The next time the Bulldogs see the field they'll take on McAllen Memorial at 7:30 p.m. on October 10. As for Vela, their break will end when they face Juarez-Lincoln at 7:00 p.m. on October 9.
