Volleyball Recap: Sahuaro Comes Up Short

After flying high against Tucson High Magnet School last Wednesday, Sahuaro came back down to earth. The Cougars lost 3-0 to the Rincon/University Rangers on Friday. The Cougars have struggled against the Rangers recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive lost meeting.

Sahuaro was was forced to take the loss, but they sure made Rincon/University work for it, especially in the first set. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 29-27, 25-12, 25-18.

Sahuaro's offense was headlined by Damien Ritter and Ethan Geoffroy, who picked up three kills apiece. They got some help from David Gutierrez and his nine assists. He was also solid from the service line: he led the team with two aces.

Rincon/University was led to victory by Nic Sanchez and Liam Burke. Sanchez had four digs and four aces, while Burke had three digs and one block. That's the most aces Sanchez has posted since back in March.

Sahuaro's defeat dropped their record down to 9-11. As for Rincon/University, their record now sits at 13-5.

Coming up, Sahuaro will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Mica Mountain at 5:00 p.m. As for Rincon/University, they will be taking part in a tournament against Salpointe Catholic at 2:00 p.m. on Friday.
